Otto W. Schmal, CPA, EA, Tax Manager

Otto is a graduate of the Monterrey Technology Institute with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance. While still in school he did an internship with Deloitte in Mexico; then, after graduation, Otto moved to California and worked for Martinez & Walker, a tax and bookkeeping firm in Redwood City. During his six years there, he developed his talent for helping small business owners and individuals make sense of their tax and accounting situations. Also during this time, Otto earned his Enrolled Agent designation and decided to pursue his CPA certification. Since joining CMC in 2008, he has successfully reached that goal, and has now set his sights on his Masters in Taxation from Golden Gate University. Otto combines razor-sharp knowledge with an unflappable sense of humor to help guide both individual and business clients through an increasingly complex tax system so that they can make informed decisions. He has also helped many of our business clients by refining their accounting systems, preparing financial statements, and then educating them on how to analyze and apply the results – thereby improving the way they run their businesses.

Otto is a graduate of the Leadership Institute, a program sponsored by the California Society of CPA’s and Education Foundation. The program helps participants grow as volunteers and business leaders through improving leadership behavior, critical thinking and management skills. Otto is a member of the California Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.

Outside of work, Otto enjoys spending time with his family and loves to be outdoors – particularly playing beach volleyball, running or kayaking.

Otto is fluent in Spanish as well as English.
