Robert H. Jones, CPA, CGMA, Tax Director
Bob is a graduate of St. Mary’s College and has been a practicing CPA since 1972. For twenty-nine years, he was a partner at Jones & Giron, an Oakland based firm, where he worked with both individuals and businesses. During two of those years with Jones & Giron, Bob served as managing partner. His clients relied on his expertise to help them make sense of an increasingly complex tax code and get the most out of their hard-earned dollars. In January of 2013, Bob joined CMC as a Tax Director, bringing with him a wellspring of knowledge and experience. Quite often, he acts as the outsource CFO to his business clients, who look to him for help in strategic business development – including executive compensation planning, growth and exit strategies, and mergers and acquisitions. More recently, Bob has also taken on the role of Professional Development Director, overseeing the continuing education of the CMC staff and acting as mentor to a new generation of CPAs.
Bob is the past president of the California Society of CPA’s Education Foundation and a recent recipient of the LaVerne Garcia Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his accomplishments in the profession and contributions to the community. Bob is currently a member of the Committee on Taxation (COT) and the Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards (APAS) committee for CalCPA. In addition, he also serves on the state Board of Equalization (BOE) Advisory Council as COT liaison, as well as participating on the Council’s Education/Communication Subcommittee.
Bob continues to remain active in his community and keeps busy with his large extended family, including his seven grandchildren. He especially looks forward to gathering with them at their annual camping trips. Weekends often find him hiking or kayaking with his wife Diana, playing guitar or perfecting his woodworking techniques.
